Good morning!

Here’s some piping hot content to go down with your morning coffee, brought to you by Re/code:

  1. Climate change could demolish everything we know and love. In the meantime, Matter has a sort-of-tongue-in-cheek list of 33 things to check off your “climate change bucket list” before rising temperatures and oceans make them go away. A sampling: Cherries, reasonably priced coffee and the Sydney Opera House.
  2. When your parents told you not to sit too close to the television lest your eyes become lifeless squares, it turns out they were onto something. GigaOm says nighttime screen usage messes with your vision, sleep patterns and a whole bunch of other things.
  3. Inc has a detailed profile of Dao Nguyen, the woman behind BuzzFeed’s data and growth operations and perhaps the person most responsible for the viral content giant’s traffic spike over the last few years. Sample quote: “I think people would be surprised to know my relationship with data, which is actually one of great skepticism as well as great admiration.”
  4. Student journalism is alive and well! UC Berkeley’s Daily Californian has a thorough, lengthy feature on the Lick Observatory near San Jose, Calif., a center of award-winning research that’s at the center of a funding fight between Nobel Prize-winning scientists and the University of California’s administration.
  5. If you’re looking to understand more about global conflict, particularly what’s happening with ISIS and the Middle East, Pando’s War Nerd column is a good place to start. Here’s a post on the very long history of beheadings.

If you see any stories you’d like to send our way (or have any questions/comments about stories we’ve recommended), feel free to shoot an email to Noah Kulwin (a proud Daily Cal alum) at noah.kulwin@recode.net.
