Just in case you’ve been living in the woods — mobile games are still kind of a big deal, digital research firm SuperData said today. Worldwide revenue for mobile games will total $21.1 billion this year, up from $17.7 billion last year. That growth is being driven, in another non-surprise, by Asia, with $11.3 billion in revenue to dwarf North America’s $3.8. Also of note: Extending gameplay, for example by buying extra lives, thoroughly bested all other motivations for making in-app purchases on smartphones in a SuperData survey. It was also the leading reason on tablets, but by a closer margin.
