Korean electronics maker LG is issuing a software update for its G Watch designed to prevent an issue where the device corrodes, potentially causing skin irritation.
LG confirmed the update, but said that the device is safe even without the software patch.
“Recently, it has come to our attention that a small number of G Watch devices have been reported to have developed discoloration and residue buildup on the terminal pins located on the back,” LG said in a statement to Re/code. “While completely safe and unlikely to affect charging, LG has rolled out a maintenance release that will disable the current when the G Watch is not in the charging dock.”
LG said neither it nor Google has gotten any customer reports of injury or allergic reactions.
The update will be delivered automatically over the air to all G Watch owners, LG said. “We thank G Watch users for their patience and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
