News Brief

Isis, the mobile payments company backed by AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon Wireless, announced on Monday that it will change its brand name in light of the rise of an Islamic militant group whose name in English is abbreviated as ISIS. “However coincidental, we have no interest in sharing a name with a group whose name has become synonymous with violence, and our hearts go out to those who are suffering,” CEO Mike Abbott said in a statement. The company, which makes a mobile app that allows shoppers to pay for purchases in some stores using only their phone, has yet to choose a new name.
