Fred Davis, the banker who left Code Advisors earlier this year, has a new perch: He’ll be a partner at Raine Group, the high-profile merchant bank.
Davis, who used to be best known as a music industry attorney, helped found Code in 2010, and worked with some of the firm’s highest-profile clients, including music service Spotify and gaming powerhouse Supercell. He’ll continue to be based in New York, but will also focus on Europe, he says.
Raine may be best known in digital media circles for its investment in Vice Media, but the bank has its hands on all sorts of deals: Two years ago, for instance, it helped Japan’s SoftBank acquire Sprint. Last year it helped Current TV’s owners sell the TV network to Al Jazeera, at a premium that surprised industry observers.
Earlier this year Raine brought on Richard Rosenblatt, the former CEO of Demand Media, on as an advisor.
