News Brief

NSA leaker Edward Snowden is a “traitor,” venture capitalist Marc Andreessen told CNBC. The secrets he’s revealed have hurt Silicon Valley by association, and President Barack Obama is doing nothing to change that perception on the world stage.

“The Snowden reveals keep coming out. The [Obama] administration is letting the NSA out to dry. They’re letting the American tech industry out to dry,” Andreessen said in a “Squawk Box” interview that aired Thursday.

So Snowden is a traitor, yet we are all glad that the NSA's spying on us has been revealed. Even Congress--which has now passed a law aiming to rein in NSA somewhat. This does not compute.

I would ask, why did not Dianne Feinstein blow the whistle on NSA? Had she done that, and had that resulted in similar limits on NSA, then Snowden may never have taken the actions he did.

If our elected officials, who are sworn to protect us and the Constitution, fail to do so, isn't that a crime? Surely it's an impeachable offense.

I suggest that anybody who thinks Snowden is a traitor needs to make a similarly harsh judgement against the other officials who were complicit in allowing the NSA outrage to continue.

And notice how Marc doesn't attempt any answer of the interviewer's last question, namely, what should Obama be doing?

Sure,  Snowden is a traitor to the USA administration, but that is a good thing yes?

Andreessen is just upset that NSA's intrusive activities are calling attention to similar behavior of his Silicon Valley investments.  One does it for (ostensibly) security and the other does it for profits. Neither have any excuses.

So if the NSA was secretly putting some unwanted ingredient in the food that American companies were exporting, and somebody exposed it., leading to a decline in the sales of the American exporters, would that person be a traitor?

So now we've expanded the definition of a traitor to someone who impacts the profits of American companies?

Andreesen is not mad at the NSA for their wholesale spying, just mad at a guy who made more people aware of it.
