A few hours after announcing their $3 billion deal, Apple SVP Eddy Cue and Beats co-founder Jimmy Iovine came to the Code Conference to talk about what brought them together, and what they want to do next. You can watch their conversation with Walt Mossberg and Kara Swisher below.

I'm a bit disturbed by the question from Walt and Kara, "Is Apple now buying cool?" vs "creating cool".  Let us not forget, iTunes was an acquisition of Soundjam MP.  Panic clearly lays out the history of that story where their software "Audion" lost the battle to become "iTunes" - http://panic.com/extras/audionstory/popup-sjstory.html.  Also, Siri...last I remember that was a stand-alone company that was acquired by Apple.  Walt might remember best asking Steve Jobs what his plans were for that acquisition.  The rest is history.  Eddy was correct in his statement, Apple buys companies every year when they see it can compliment them in making great products.

Both are great. Very interesting. When you hear Jimmy speak you get why apple made the deal.

This is great, a lot of interesting ideas being explained and explored here.

I’m starting to get it (I think) about Beats purchase. Personally I have been interested in purchasing sound related products recently, either from Jawbone’s Jambox, Parrot”s Zik or Harman Kardon speakers. Beats products (besides the music service) doesn’t appeal to me. I think Apple’s first step is obviously making speakers (computer and bluetooth) and headphones.

What will make them unique? How will they change them? I don’t know. But now I get the value. Jimmy Iovine alone has some interesting perspectives.
