While Microsoft founder Bill Gates is spending more time at Microsoft, CEO Satya Nadalla says there is no question who is in charge.

“I run the place,” Nadella said, speaking at the inaugural Code Conferece. “Bill’s helping.”

Nadella says that Bill Gates is aiding Microsoft in a number of areas including rethinking how Office can remain relevant.

“He’s got some specific interest in Office and how to reinvent it,” Nadella said. “He’s got an agenda which I subscribe to.”

Nadella added that a founder can help galvanize people in a way that just a CEO can’t. Plus, you know, he’s Bill Gates.

“I think Bill’s presence, Bill’s push, Bill’s high standards are helpful,” Nadella said, retelling the story of one of his early reviews with Gates in which Gates asked Nadella whether they needed someone with more IQ points, pushing Nadella to work harder.

Hopefully he can do something decent. Killing RT and making the Surface RT tablets we bought obsolete in a matter of a day lost my MS business after 25 years. Eesh lost money on my Zune because they let it slip into obscurity, wasted money on a WP7 phone, and now almost a grand on two Surface RTs as an early adopter... they need to settle down at some point and stay on a set course and make things work. I'm going to re-buy my Apple equivalent things ie tablets, laptop and phone because in the past when I've had those as well they've been relevant and worked for years with multiple updates. Surface RT will never go past 8.1 and programs are all ready being dumped in the app store that won't even run on a first gen. Surface... Live and learn. I just can't trust them to supply me with stuff that will last a while.

I think he needs some time. Windows 8 wasn't that good and hopefully he will get a strong stance and figure things out for the better.

If he is the real boss, then he is responsible for the screw up Windows 8.

If you have to assert you being the real boss, then you're not the real boss.
