The New York Times announced on Wednesday that Executive Editor Jill Abramson was leaving and being replaced by Managing Editor Dean Baquet. Abramson had been the paper’s top editor since 2011, when she became the first woman to lead the Times’ newsroom. Baquet, who has held the top position at the Los Angeles Times, becomes the first African-American to be named to the role at the Times.


How very sad (and telling) that the seemingly most important information about the people in this brief is that one is a woman and one is African-American.  What about competence, experience, education...
