Apple Confirms Purchase of LED Company LuxVue
Apple has scooped up LuxVue, a Santa Clara, Calif.-based startup working on low-power LED technology.
The iPhone maker confirmed it with the response it typically gives when it has bought a company but doesn’t want to say more.
“Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans,” the company said in a statement.
CEO Tim Cook noted in last month’s earnings conference call that the company has been on something of an acquisition binge, buying 24 companies in the last 18 months, and typically only disclosing purchases when it has to.
LuxVue has raised several rounds of venture capital, including $25 million raised in December.
The acquisition was reported earlier Friday by TechCrunch.
