Fourteen-year TiVo sales executive Doug Bieter has left the company for a role as vice president of sales at San Francisco startup Dropcam. Bieter was the DVR-maker’s vice president of consumer sales and marketing, having started at San Jose-based TiVo back in 1999. The company recently hired Ira Bahr as its new chief marketing officer. TiVo, which faces increasing competition in the set-top box market, reported a 34 percent year-over-year rise in subscriptions last quarter, hitting over 4 million subscribers, but a tiny fraction of those subscribers are consumers buying TiVo boxes on their own. Earlier this year it was reported that TiVo had laid off most of its hardware design team and was considering getting out of the hardware business. TiVo flatly denied this, but hasn’t made a secret of the fact that it is focusing more on its software and cloud-based applications.
