Microsoft Brings OneNote to the Mac and Makes It Free, but Will That Be Enough?

OneNote for Mac

Microsoft said Monday that it was bringing OneNote to the Mac and also making the Office note-taking app free for all users.

It remains to be seen how much the moves help OneNote against other cross-platform note-taking apps, particularly Evernote. Microsoft said it is reserving some premium features for paid users, a page right out of Evernote’s notebook.

OneNote was the first part of Office to come to the iPhone, with a version also available for Android.

Microsoft declined to comment on reports that it would have a new version of Office for the Mac this year. The company is also expected to — at long last — release a full-fledged tablet version of Office for the iPad, though this has been an on-again, off-again proposition for years now.
