Julie Larson-Green, a top executive in Microsoft’s Windows unit is moving to a new role in the search and services business run by Qi Lu.
Larson-Green will serve as chief experience officer for Lu. Larson-Green has been running Microsoft’s device business (including Xbox, Surface and other hardware), though that post is slated to go to former Nokia CEO Stephen Elop once Microsoft completes its deal to buy the Finnish company’s handset unit.
Larson-Green was a top deputy to former Windows boss Steven Sinofsky and had also worked for him when he was running Office. She became the first woman to run Windows when Sinofksy left, but was then shifted to the device role when Microsoft combined Windows and Windows Phone under Terry Myerson.
