Computing giant Hewlett-Packard just announced that it had sold a block of old mobile technology patents to wireless chip company Qualcomm.
Financial terms haven’t been disclosed, but the sale includes a batch of 1,400 patents and applications for some still pending in the U.S. and another 1,000 patents and applications from other countries.
Most of them came to HP by way of its $1.2 billion acquisition of Palm in 2010, others via its 2006 acquisition of BitFone and even a few stemmed from its acquisition of Compaq way back in 2002.
HP, which earlier this month announced its intentions to re-enter the mobile phone space with a phablet device aimed at the Indian market, will retain a license for the patents.
